To describe the natural environment of Zakynthos, only two words are needed: Mediterranean beauty. The island is surrounded by long sandy beaches on the east and dramatic cliffs on the west, offering endless contrasts that amaze visitors. Adding to this charm is the lush greenery—mainly pine forests—that stretches from the southern villages of Vasilikos and Keri to the northernmost village of Volimes.
In this guide, we’ll explore the stunning beaches of Vasilikos, where our accommodation, Lithies Organic Farm, is located. Then we’ll share our personally curated list of favorite beaches across the rest of Zakynthos—perfect for adventurous escapes during your holiday.
Beaches in Vasilikos, Zakynthos
Why to Stay in Vasilikos?
Vasilikos is the perfect base for beach lovers. From here, you can explore a variety of sandy, family-friendly beaches within walking or driving distance from Lithies Organic Farm. Staying in one of our farm houses in Vasilikos, gives you the freedom to enjoy both relaxation and adventure, surrounded by authentic Greek hospitality.
Gerakas Beach
One of the most majestic beaches in Zakynthos and probably Greece. Also our personal favorite.. Known for its golden sand, shallow waters (perfect for children), and unique landscape, Gerakas is also a protected nesting site for the Caretta-Caretta sea turtle. It is partly organized with sunbeds while also leaving plenty of free space. Parking, cafés, and mini-markets are within walking distance. Once there, don’t forget to explore the right side of the beach. You will encounter a lunar like scenery out of a science fiction movie. Keep in mind: Gerakas Beach closes at sunset (20:00) to protect the turtles.
Porto Roma
Named after the Zakynthian writer Dionysios Roma, who once owned a house here, Porto Roma is a peaceful spot ideal for families. The beach hosts two seaside tavernas where you can enjoy lunch, dinner, or a refreshing glass of ouzo after a swim.
Agios Nikolaos, Mavratzis & Plaka
Three neighboring coves, equally charming and popular with locals. They feature lively beach bars and restaurants for every mood, from relaxed to cosmopolitan. At Agios Nikolaos, you’ll also find a picturesque chapel where weddings and baptisms often take place, as well as water sports facilities for extra fun.

Vasilikos Beach – Spiantza
Perhaps the longest stretch of sand on Zakynthos, Spiantza is lined with tavernas and restaurants—some touristy, some authentically local—making it a perfect choice for any time of day. With plenty of space, it’s easy to find a quiet spot if you prefer seclusion.
Porto Zorro (Azuro)
The first beach you’ll encounter when arriving in Vasilikos from Zakynthos Town. Just 5 minutes’ drive from Lithies Organic Farm (or a scenic 40-minute walk through the village), Porto Zorro is a fantastic spot to spend a relaxing afternoon by the sea.

Dafni Beach
A beloved beach among locals and another Caretta-Caretta nesting area. Dafni offers breathtaking views of Pelouzo island, Keri, and Laganas Bay, with the dramatic mountain backdrop completing the scene. Though access can be a bit challenging (best by car), the destination is rewarding. The beach is family-friendly, with traditional tavernas and even a pottery workshop for a creative break from the sun.
Favorite Beaches Beyond Vasilikos
Although Vasilikos offers some of the best beach the Ionian See, the rest of Zakynthos offers breathtaking taking sceneries. Here are some of our personal favorites.
Marathias
Located in Keri on Zakynthos’ southwest coast, Marathias is a pebble beach surrounded by wild greenery that gives the sea a unique turquoise color. The road down is a bit steep, so bring food and water with you. From Marathias you get an atmospheric view of the turtle shaped island, Marathonisi. Distance: ~50 minutes.

Plakaki
Between Keri and Agalas lies a lunar-like landscape on Zakynthos’ western coast. Getting there requires care: a steep descent down steps carved into the cliffs. Alternatively, you can reach it by boat. There is no sandy beach, but the crystal waters are well worth the effort. Distance: ~55 minutes by car.
Porto Roxa
Near the village of Agios Leon, Porto Roxa is a small rocky cove with turquoise waters. Beach bars with sunbeds and ladders make it easy to enjoy a swim in the deep waters. Distance: ~60 minutes by car.

Porto Steniti
A quiet alternative to the famous Navagio (Shipwreck Beach). The road leads directly to the cove, making it easy to access. It’s unorganized but you can rent a boat for tours along Zakynthos’ northern coast. Distance: ~60 minutes by car.
Xygia Beach
On Zakynthos’ east coast, Xygia is a unique beach with white pebbles and waters rich in natural sulfur. While the smell may surprise you, the minerals are known for their therapeutic properties. The setting feels like a scene from an Italian movie! Distance: ~50 minutes by car.
